CRYSTAL SPRINGS — Michael Steven Bass, 53, died June 4, 2015, at home.

Funeral service is 3 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church of Crystal Springs with burial at the Pleasant Hills Baptist Church in Simpson County.

Visitation begins at 2 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Bass grew up in Simpson County, graduated from Union Academy and was a member of Pleasant Hills Baptist Church. He and his wife Ginger were married April 24, 1999, in Vicksburg and moved to Georgetown in 2002.

He worked as a deckhand on towboats, attended the New Orleans Coast Guard School where he received his merchant marine pilot license, and worked as a towboat pilot and captain for DeLoach Marine of Baton Rouge, La., on the Intercoastal Waterway.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, P.B. and Maggie Little, and Archie and Edna Bass; and father, Jimmy Bass.

He is survived by wife, Virginia Bass of Georgetown; mother and stepfather, Gail and Bruce Young of Georgetown; daughter, Brandee Bass of Jackson; brother, David Bass and wife Pam of Chicago; aunt, Vickie Bass Ramsey and husband Herbert of Hazlehurst; and uncle, Phillip Little of Prentiss.
