Norma Powell Forrest

Norma Powell Forrest of Vicksburg died Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Merit Health River Region Hospital after a short illness. She was 89.
Mrs. Forrest was born April 2, 1926 and raised in Greenwood. Norma was a graduate of Mississippi State University and an active member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was married to her husband, Thomas Lee Forrest for 65 years. She was a resident of Greenville for 16 years before moving to Vicksburg in 1966. While in Greenville. She was active in civic and church affairs including the Colonial Garden Club, the Junior Women’s Club and First Presbyterian Church. In Vicksburg she was active in Junior Auxiliary, Newcomer’s Club and Engineer’s Club. She was very active in First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg where she was a member since 1966 and served in numerous capacities including Sunday school and Bible school teacher, circle chairman, circle Bible moderator, White Cross chairman, Women of the Church president, Presbytery District Chairman and President, and served as a elder for many years. Her hobbies were reading, traveling, bridge and needlework.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Newsome Powell; her mother, Elizabeth Owen Powell; her sister, Carolyn Powell Piraino, and her husband, Thomas Lee Forrest, Jr.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Forrest (Sally) of Vicksburg; a granddaughter, Jenny Winders (Cory) of Madison; granddaughter, Leanne Jones (Nathan) of Vicksburg; and great-grandchildren, Parker and Catelyn Winders and Brock and Dawson Jones.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Glenwood Funeral Home and service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg.
Pallbearers will be Cory Winders, Nathan Jones, Kenneth Alford, Bob Cunny, Harold Blue, Jessie Oldham, J.E. “Brother” Blackburn and Randy Sherard.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Ruth Circle members of First Presbyterian Church.
Glenwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
