Companies with financial interests in the old Kuhn Memorial Hospital building on Martin Luther King Boulevard will soon be receiving notices the city intends to condemn the building and take it down.

Community Development Director Victor Grey-Lewis told the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Monday, letters outlining the city’s plans would be mailed to all interested parties.

A meeting with the property owners would be set for later this month. The exact date of that meeting was to be announced Monday afternoon.

The notices are part of the city’s slum clearance ordinance, which will allow the city to demolish the building.

A problem for the city since 2000, the dilapidated and abandoned building was most recently the location where 69-year-old Sharen Wilson, a Drummond Street resident, was shot and killed. Her body was discovered on June 27 in a wooded area near the hospital.
