Past fairs to attract new hires have drawn more than 150 to the casino, which is Vicksburg’s largest. The casino employed 749 people, including hotel workers, according to the Mississippi Gaming Commission data through March 31, 2015. Ameristar is the seventh largest casino out of Mississippi’s 28 casinos.

The casino extends over 70,000 square feet and over 1,500 slot machines, 27 table games and 10 poker tables. The Bottleneck Blues Bar offers entertainment in a Delta-style blues club environment. The property also offers a 149-room deluxe hotel and a variety of dining choices, including Bourbon’s BBQ and Steakhouse, Bella’s Bakery and Cafe and the Heritage Buffet.

“We are absolutely hiring,” Ameristar General Manager Gerard Hardy said. “We’ve got enough jobs open that if people bring their skill level and great personality, we’ll find a home for them.”

The casino’s business continues to grow leading to more employment opportunities, Hardy said.

“We are looking for people that are outgoing and friendly,” he said. “We aren’t necessarily looking for a certain experience level, but more a great attitude and a willingness to interact with our guests.”

Efforts to add to the casino’s workforce coincide with lower unemployment rates in Warren County, according to statistics from the state for May. The jobless rate for the month was 7.4 percent. Joblessness in Mississippi was 7.0 percent.

Applications may also be taken at the casino’s administration building, at 4116 Washington St., just east of the main casino, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 1-9 p.m. on Tuesdays.
