Services for Marie Scott Burkley Nelson will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Mount Givens Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry L. Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday noon until 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m., and Saturday at the church from noon until the service.
Mrs. Nelson died Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Covenant Health and Rehabilitation Center in Vicksburg. She was 85.
A native of Warren County, she attended Warren County public schools was a career as cook with a long tenure at Marathon Le Tourneau and Westinghouse besides several restaurants.
She was a lifelong member of Mount Givens Church, its choir, and was a mother and deaconness of the church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Juliana Burkley Sr. and Robert Nelson Sr.; a son, Melvin Burkley; her parents and grandparents; and her brother, Eddie Lee Giles.
Survivors include two sons, Juliana Burkley Jr. and Robert Nelson Jr., both of Vicksburg;
four daughters, Sophronia Lyons and Katie Hicks of Columbus, Ga., and Patricia Scales and Annie Howie of Fort Mitchell, Ala; a brother, Moses Jones of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and a sister, Mrs. Rosa Lee Thomas Durris of Buffalo, N.Y.; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
