Eugene Wood ‘Gene’ Hall

Eugene Wood “Gene” Hall of Vicksburg died at Merit River Region Medical Center Sunday, July 26, 2015. He was 89.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hall, and his son, James Arthur Hall.
Survivors include his three sons, Dan Hall (Beth) of Vicksburg, Todd Hall (Kelly) of Clinton and William Hall (Pam) of Ferriday, La.; and James’ widow, Rhonda Hall-Howard, of Vicksburg.
He was grandfather to Lindsay Hall of Brandon, Jay Hall (Sarah) of Clinton, Daniel Hall of Hattiesburg, Lauren Hall of Ferriday, La., Addison Hall of Everett, Wash., Olivia Hall of Clinton, and Lance Hall of Vicksburg.
He was born in Vicksburg on Jan. 1, 1926, to Wood Bridge Hall and Olivia Jean Mathis Hall.
He was raised in Vicksburg and joined the United States Navy in June 1944 and served two years during World War II, and several years later in the Navy Reserves.
He graduated from Mississippi State University. After graduation, he worked for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service. Later, he and his father formed Hall’s Insurance Agency. He also raised bees and produced honey as Hall’s Honey Farms. He later invested in and managed rental property throughout Vicksburg.
He married Betty Riordan on Nov. 26, 1952, and the couple resided in Hattiesburg for two years before returning to Vicksburg.
He and his family were members of First Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg, and he had been an active member of the Vicksburg Jaycees and Vicksburg Lions Club. He was also a Mason. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.
Visitation will be held Thursday July 30, 2015 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg.
