Walter ‘Sonny’ Harris

Walter “Sonny” Harris died July 26, 2015, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. He was 68.

Mr. Harris was born July 9, 1947, in Belzoni to the late Mr. Walter Chambers and Mrs. Ora Harris Chambers, and lived in Edwards.

He attended Humphreys County schools and attended New McRaven Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he was active in Sunday school, Bible class, mission and the deacon’s ministry.

He was employed with Anglin Tires in Jackson as a tire technician and later retired from Mississippi Fast Freight in Jackson as a tire engineer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Barrion Chambers.

Survivors include his wife, Ivory Jean Harris; two daughters Ruby Morris Smith of Akron, Ohio, and Tracee Morris of Jackson; two sons, Eddye C. Morris of Palametto, Ga., and Emmett Morris of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Dora Carpenter of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother Robert Chambers of Houston, Texas; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, A New McRaven Hill Missionary Baptist Church

1530 Pear St., Jackson, With the Rev. Dr. Jesse Sutton Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery in Edwards.

Pallbearers will be Charles Jones, Luther Davis, Jamarious Jones, Te-Yarious Jones, Marcus Warner and Timothy Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddye C. Morris, Emmett Morris, Rashe Morris, Ivan Morris Sr., Darius Morris, Dominque Varner and Alex Morris.
