Alcorn to host annual ag field day

“Diversity and Sustainable Agriculture: Celebrating More Than 125 Years of Providing Access and Enhancing Opportunities,” is the theme of this year’s annual Alcorn State University Agricultural, Research and Extension Field Day.

The event will be held Thursday, August 27, 2015, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the Jesse A. Morris, Sr./W.C. Boykin Agricultural Science Building, located on the Lorman campus.

The event is sponsored by the School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences.

Demonstrations and exhibits will be on numerous topics including high-value alternative crops production, enhancing sweet potato yield and quality, fresh produce production in high tunnel, agroforestry, food safety, sustainable melon and vegetable production, integrated pest management in vegetable crops, eating healthy and animal and mushroom production.

Dr. Dewayne L. Goldmon, outreach lead for Monsanto Company, will serve as the keynote speaker for the event. Monsanto is a sustainable agriculture company. Goldmon is a seasoned professional in the field of agriculture, who has been working for Monsanto, a sustainable company that delivers agricultural products that support farmers all around the world, since 1995.

He has held positions as a technology development representative, market development representative, agronomic research manager, technical development manager, product development and marketing manager, technology development representative, and director of stakeholder relations, to his current position. He also worked as field research agriculturalist for American Cyanamid, Agricultural Research Division (ARD).
