Dear editor,

The 17th Annual Citywide Pep Rally on Aug. 8 at the Outlets at Vicksburg proved to be one of the most exciting and entertaining to date. A record breaking crowd gathered to watch this annual tradition and it could not have taken place without the support and generosity of the community. While we couldn’t have escaped the Mississippi summer heat, the sky was beautiful and the sun was shining.

Special thanks to Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace and Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong for offering the students of Vicksburg Warren County School District, Porter’s Chapel and Vicksburg Catholic Schools encouragement and support for the new school year. Also, we’d like to thank superintendant Chad Shealy and the principals of the Vicksburg and Warren County high schools for coming and showing their support for the community. The incredible support and cooperation from the Vicksburg Police Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Department, and the Vicksburg Fire and Rescue are much appreciated.

Thank you to KHITS 104.5 host Chris Burks for emceeing the event and entertaining the crowd. A big thank you to our sponsor Blackburn Motors of Vicksburg, whose immense support for the community is much appreciated.

We would like to recognize the following: Michel’s Record Shop, Sheffield Rentals, Vicksburg Salvation Army, and all the vendors who provided refreshments, information, and fun for the crowd. We especially want to thank our stores for their support. A big thank you to rue21 for providing the two gift card prizes as giveaways during the pep rally and Skechers for providing the tote bags to pep rally participants.

We want to thank all who gave their time and talents, especially the cheerleading coaches, dance team coaches, band directors and ROTC leaders. The cheerleaders, dancers, and band members did a fantastic job entertaining us Saturday. We wish them a successful school year. Finally, we would like to commend all of the schools in Vicksburg and Warren County for their continued support and the wonderful administrators, teachers, and staff that educate and shape our children. They are our future.
