A Vicksburg man was being held without bond in the Warren County Jail accused of stabbing another man to death early Saturday morning at an apartment complex on Grove Street.

Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said Mack Vaughn, 41, died at the Merit Health River Region Medical Center emergency room from multiple stab wounds to the chest he received during an argument with Bernard Brown, 50, in the parking lot of the complex.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said Vaughn was pronounced dead by an emergency room doctor about 6:35 a.m. Saturday. He said an autopsy has been ordered.

Williams said police believe the stabbing was the result of an earlier domestic argument involving Vaughn, Brown and Brown’s wife, adding police responded to the domestic violence call at the apartments about 3:30 p.m.

About an hour later, officers responding to a call about a stabbing victim at the hospital emergency room arrived to find Vaughn in the ER.

Brown was arrested about an hour later while he was walking in the 2100 block of Clay Street.

“They recognized him because they had already dealt with him earlier in the evening,” Williams said. She said Brown would have an initial appearance in Municipal Court Monday.
