PORT GIBSON — Cherrie Martin Spiller died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at Merit Health River Region Medical Center. She was 56.
Mrs. Spiller was a member of Greater St. Mark M.B. Church. She worked at Grand Gulf for many years and had been employed by the Madison Parish School District in Tallulah, La.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Hazel West-Martin; three sisters, Jacqueline Martin, Gloria Martin Walker and Joyce Dennis; and six brothers, Richard Bingmon, Willie E. Butler, Bernard Weathers, Sam Butler, Percy R. Butler, and Otis Butler.
Survivors include a daughter, Tashauna Cheree Spiller of Port Gibson; a granddaughter; five brothers, Frederick Martin Sr. and Nathaniel Martin Jr., both of Port Gibson, Ira T. West of Atlanta, Lee Andrew Cadney of New York, and Melvin Butler of Ferguson, Mo.; four sisters, Gardenia Griffin and Shirley Henderson, both of Port Gibson, Tommie Martin of Cleveland, Ohio, and Rosemary Rachelson of Taos, N.M.; five aunts; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 11a.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Leon Howard officiating, assisted by the Rev. Kevin Winters.
Burial will be at the Wilson Family Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson.
Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home, and Saturday at the church from 10a.m. until the service.
