Splash For Gold swimming

Registration is now open for the Splash For Gold Coast-to-Coast Postal Swim Meet to benefit pediatric cancer research. The meet continues through September and consists of five events — the 50-, 100- and 500-yard freestyle, the 100-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. Swimmers of all ages and skill levels can participate by registering at splashforgold.org and then swimming the events at their convenience and submitting their times on the web site.

The registration fee is $30 and includes a commemorative silicone cap and bracelet. Proceeds benefit the My Mission is Remission Foundation and local cancer charities. For more information, visit splashforgold.org or email mymissionisremission@gmail.com

VHS hosts college softball game

Vicksburg High will host a college softball doubleheader between Jackson State and East Mississippi Community College at its “Softball Swamp” field on Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. Admission is $2 at the gate.

Fall tennis program

The City of Vicksburg’s youth fall tennis program is under way at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The program will run Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 5 to 6 p.m., and is free. For more information, call Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.

Over the River Run

Registration is now open for the 27th Annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run and race walk across the Old Mississippi River Bridge. The Over the River Run is scheduled for Oct. 10 at 8 a.m. at the Mississippi Welcome Center on Washington Street. A 1-mile children’s fun run will follow the 5-mile run and walk.

The entry fee is $25 for individuals before Oct. 1, or $30 after that date, and $15 for children 10 and under. There’s also a $55 rate for families of as many as five people, and a $75 corporate rate.

Alcorn golf tourney

The Alcorn State University Alumni Foundation will host its 7th annual Purple & Gold Golf Tournament Oct. 16 at Clear Creek Golf Course. Clear Creek Ladies report

On Wednesday, the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association had match play. Linda McHann took first place, while Carol Roberson was second and Cheri Williams third. McHann also took low putt honors.

Copper Mill Golf Classic

The Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour will host the Copper Mill Junior Classic Sept. 26 and 27 at Copper Mill Golf Club in Zachary, La. The registration fee for the two-day, 36-hole tournament is $185.
