Porters Chapel Academy’s breakthrough season ended Saturday with two losses at the MAIS Fast-pitch Softball State Tournament in Brandon.
The Lady Eagles lost 5-3 to top-seeded Tri-County in their first game of the double-elimination tournament, then fell 11-0 to Canton Academy in a losers’ bracket game. PCA committed six errors in the second inning against Canton and never recovered.
PCA finished the season with an 18-12 record and reached the state tournament for the first time in a decade. The team is comprised mostly of underclassmen, including eighth-grade pitcher Hannah Embry, and coach Amanda Yocum was optimistic about its future.
Hinds Community College commit Raylee Barwick is PCA’s only senior.
“With one senior and one junior, you’re going to have a lot of goals for next season. Winning the district, getting back to the state tournament and catching a couple of wins there,” Yocum said. “We’ve got to start right back to work and get hitting in the cage if we want to achieve those goals.”
Lady Vikes sweep North Pike

Megan Stewart went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored, while her sister Morgan was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and three runs scored. Coley also had two hits, including a two-run double that keyed the third-inning rally that propelled WC to a 9-0 lead.
Katelyn Morson also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Warren Central (17-2) won the first game 5-2. Cocoa Fultz was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, Kasy Cortezie doubled, and Brooke Patterson drove in two runs. Sarah Kate Smith and April Lynn also had RBI singles.
