Rev. Alexander Woods

The Rev. Alexander Woods died September 28, 2015, at his home. He was 80.

Rev. Woods was born Dec. 6, 1934, in Fayette to Walter Woods and Hilda Williams, and lived in Vicksburg. He was a member of Bright Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church until his death, and became a minister 38 years ago. He was a board member of the Baptist Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Woods and Hilda Williams; one daughter, Johnnie B. Shorter; two sisters, Ocerena Williams and Ruthie Woods; and two brothers, Percy Woods and James Williams.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary Pines; four sisters, Virginia Burch and Dorothy Weathersby of Detroit, and Hilda Smith and Deliah Williams of Los Angeles; one brother, Albert Smith of Detroit; two granddaughters; one grandson; four great-grandchildren; and stepchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Services will 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home from 1 to 7 p.m. with family present from 6 to 7 p.m., and Saturday at the church from noon until the hour of the service.
