Sarah Eloise Howell Breland, 82, was united with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, after a lengthy illness.
The visitation and funeral will both be at the First Pentecostal Church located at 6541 Paxton Road, Vicksburg. The visitation will be Monday from noon until 2p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday with the Rev. Dathan Tipton officiating, burial immediately following at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church pastored by Bishop Tipton. She was a longtime resident of Vicksburg; born and raised in Satartia, Miss. Mrs. Breland is well known throughout the medical field in Warren County for her years of faithful and loving care as a certified nursing assistant. In years past, The Vicksburg Post featured letters written by former patients and their families to honor the work “Sarah” so tenderly performed. She is also remembered by her family as a woman whose heart was deeper than the Mississippi River! She loved everyone and wanted to share the love of Jesus with each! She taught her family to pray and search the scriptures for truth and salvation. She honored the Lord in all that she did! Proverbs 31:28,30 describes her best “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her…a woman who feareth the Lord she shall be praised!”
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Sam and Ruby Howell of Jackson; two sons Gary Wayne and Baby Breland of Vicksburg; one great-granddaughter Natalie Gregg of Vicksburg and her sister, Mary E. Howell Wildman of Laurel.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Robert ”Bob” Breland Sr. of Vicksburg, three children and their spouses: Robert “Bobby” Breland (Vicki), Randy Breland (Marianne), and Brenda Breland Cook (Brab). She leaves behind eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who have many fond memories of their “Gran.” Pallbearers will be Delbert Lambert, Marvin Ashley, Josh Cook, Nick Irby, Bryan Bailey and James Daniel Floyd.
The family would like to express gratitude to the caring staff at Heritage House Nursing Center in Vicksburg, who provided care for a number of years, as well as St. Joseph Hospice, for the loving care they provided in Ms. Breland’s final days. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Pentecostal Church, 6541 Paxton Road, Vicksburg, MS 39180.
