James Ernest Parker Sr.

James Ernest Parker Sr. died Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at his home. He was 80.

Born in Vicksburg, he was the son of the late Samuel Thomas Parker Sr. and Alice Ford Parker. Mr. Parker was a graduate of Carr Central High School and attended Hinds Junior College and the National Fire Academy. He served in the United States Navy and retired as Chief of the Vicksburg Fire Department in 1985.

He was an avid camper and enjoyed gardening. Mr. Parker was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marion Parker; one son, James Ernest Parker Jr. (Katherine) of Grapevine, Texas; three grandchildren, Vaughn Parker, Eric Parker and Jennifer Parker, one great-grandson, Brayden Sellers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Parker; one sister, Helen Emrick; and two brothers, Sam Parker and Mobrey Parker.

Graveside services will be Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, at noon at Redbone United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. Matt Buckles, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating.

Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Memorials may be made to charities of choice.

Pallbearers will be Micky Parker, Tommy Parker, Shane Quimby, Chris Sellers, Bill Johnston and Vernon Luckett Jr.
