Funeral services for Betty Joyce Bridges will be noon Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Mount Calvary M.B. Church, with pastor Mincer Minor officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home, and on Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.

Mrs. Bridges died October 21, 2015, at Merit Health River Region Medical Center. She was 64.

A native of Oxford, she was a graduate of Jackson State University, and a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She was a retired social worker with Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health and a member of Mount Calvary M.B. Church, where she served on the Mother Board and Sister-to-Sister.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Thad Bridges Jr.; her parents, Shirley and Mary Porter; and three sisters, Virginia Campbell, Linda Gipson, and Belinda Karen Mathis.

Survivors include two sons, Thad Bridges Jr. of Jackson and Nicholas Bridges of Vicksburg; one daughter, Candice Mathis of Oxford; three brothers, Clinton Mathis of Winston-Salem, North Carollina, Harvey Mathis of Oxford and Charles Mathis of Chicago; six sisters, Vanessa Jackson of Bay Shore, NY, Ester Grace Mathis, Elizabeth Gipson, Stephanie Webb, Phyllis Fox, and Joyce Renea Mathis, all of Oxford; seven grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and other relatives
