State Treasurer Lynn Fitch is partnering with Vicksburg High School to promote financial literacy through a program called Financial Football.

Along with Mayor George Flaggs, Jr., Alderman Willis Thompson and Alderman Michael Mayfield, Fitch addressed improving financial literacy among Mississippi teens.

“Financial Football is an excellent tool to get our students engaged in personal finance,” Fitch said. “It’s important to provide them with a fun way to learn about financial responsibility and establishing good habits early on. Programs like Financial Football and the Treasurer’s Education About Money are critical to changing the financial culture in Mississippi.”

Together, the elected officials and Vicksburg High School showcased the statewide effort to improve the money management skills of high school and middle school students with Financial Football, a free educational video game and classroom curriculum developed by Visa Inc. and the NFL.

The game is distributed by the Office of the State Treasurer to every middle school and high school in Mississippi and can also be played online at Mississippi.financialfootball.com.

Financial Football puts individuals’ fiscal knowledge to the test in a game that combines the structure and rules of the NFL with financial education questions of varying difficulty. The engaging, fast-paced game is accompanied by additional teaching resources for teachers, the officials said.
