Gordon Boyd Freeny

Gordon Boyd Freeny died Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at Belmont Gardens Personal Care Home in Vicksburg. He was 79.

Mr. Freeny was born on July 27, 1936, in Vicksburg and was the son of the late Ottis and Alzadie Freeny.

He was a graduate of Carr Central High School and the University of Mississippi.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 801st Battalion, 101st Airborne Division.

Mr. Freeny was a civil engineer with the Bureau of Reclamation-Hoover Dam before moving to Golden, Colorado, where he worked for Western Area Power Administration until his retirement in 1991. He was the recipient of numerous awards and citations.

Mr. Freeny was a member of the Ole Miss Alumni Association, and his hobbies included taking his dogs on motorcycle rides and flying model airplanes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean Freeny; and his beloved dogs, Herman, Patches, and Candy.

Mr. Freeny is survived by his children, Andy Freeny (Cynthia) of Vicksburg, Rebecca Connor (John) of Baytown, Texas, and Alison Laube (David) of Benton City, Washington; seven grandchildren, Lyndsey Henley, Shannon Cox, Shelbie Salter, Josh Cox, Jessica Laube, Katie Laube, and Mary Presler; six great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Cici.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Riles Funeral Home.  A graveside service will follow at 11:30 at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery with pastor Timothy Freeny officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an animal rescue league of your choice.  The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Belmont Gardens and St. Joseph Hospice for their love and care.
