In their second game, the Vikings scored four goals in the second half to pull away and beat Northeast Jones 5-1. Greer and Stang both scored twice, while Max Wamsley had a goal and an assist.

WC coach Greg Head was most pleased, however, with his defense. Freshmen Treyce Keyes, Hank Holdiness and Chase Brown, along with sophomore Jacob Cochran and senior John Austin Burris held Northeast Jones to 10 shots and one first-half goal.

Keeper Brian McHan made four saves.

“John Burris played excellent defense. We had some injuries and he was the only remaining starter,” Head said. “We had three ninth-graders come in and do a great job.”

The two wins improved Warren Central’s record to 2-0-1 on the young season. It will play at Terry Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., then host Vicksburg Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
