Warren County authorities are continuing their investigation into how four cell phones managed to get to inmates at the Warren County Jail.

“On Nov. 10, our personnel, acting on a tip that some inmates had cell phones in the cells, did a search and found four phones in a cellblock,” Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said. “Having a cell phone or any electronic device in a correctional facility is a felony, so once we determine which inmates had them, we will add another felony to their existing charge. We are also looking for whoever participated in getting the phones to the inmates. Arrests are expected.”

Pace said deputies try to look for visitors’ attempts to slip foreign items like cell phones, tobacco and other items classified as “contraband.” The most common item, he said, is tobacco.

“Sections of our jail are 100 years old,” he said. “We don’t have a visiting room where people can go visit; we have to let them inside the jail.”
