PEDESTRIAN HIT, KILLED

Vicksburg police are continuing their investigation into the death of a man who was hit by a car about 5:30 p.m. Friday on East Clay Street in front of Pizza Inn.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said Somabha Giordhameas Patel, 58, of Vicksburg died about 8:09 p.m. at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson from injuries he received when he was hit by a car while attempting to cross the street in front of the restaurant.

He said an autopsy was ordered.

Patel was taken to UMC by ambulance after attempts to get a helicopter were unsuccessful.

Lt. Troy Kimble said the driver of the car, whose name has not been released, remained at the scene and waited for police. He said no charges have been filed pending completion of the investigation.
