Philip Henry ‘Phil’ Irwin Jr.

Philip Henry “ Phil” Irwin Jr. died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 89.

Mr. Irwin was born in Lorman to the late Philip Henry Sr. and Ruth Tucker Irwin.  He was a graduate of J.H. Culkin Academy and Louisiana State University, and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Air Force.  Mr. Irwin retired as a self-employed real estate broker.

He was a lifetime member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Vicksburg Jaycees, where he earned the Distinguished Service Award and the Young Man of the Year Award.  He was also active in the Miss Mississippi Pageant and served as the pageant director for 1962.

Mr. Irwin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Deniece Cook Irwin; his children, Tony Irwin (Gwen) of Vicksburg, David Irwin (Barbi) of Nasville, Indiana, and Mary Ann Irwin Watkins (the late Ronnie Watkins) of Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be noon on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be Woody Beech, Charlie Little, Eddie Smith, Donnie Piazza, Calvin Hearn, and Ellis Tillotson. Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Vinzant, Charles Bass, Dave Jones, R.K. Foley and the senior adult Sunday school class of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
