Marguerite Ethel Heath Newman Lovorn

ROLLING FORK — Marguerite Ethel Heath Newman Lovorn, 88, of Rolling Fork, died at her home in Memphis, Tenn., Nov. 27, 2015, after 11 years of living with Alzheimer’s dementia.

Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at Rolling Fork United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. with graveside services following at 3 p.m. at the Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork, under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lovorn was born on Aug. 18, 1927, to James Preston and Grace Heath of Lockwood Plantation in Issaquena County. She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and taught high school mathematics in Rolling Fork for several years and later in Redwood. She also served as sheriff of Issaquena County.

She was a member of the Rolling Fork United Methodist Church, where she had served on many committees over the years. She was also a former member of the Rolling Fork Garden Club and an avid supporter in the founding and growth of Sharkey-Issaquena Academy. She spent countless volunteer hours tutoring students in math and helping many to prepare for GED and other examinations.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Lily Heath Bryant; her brother, Jimmy Heath; and her husbands, Jimmie Newman and Benard Lovorn.

Survivors include her son, Jim Newman and wife Lynn, of Rolling Fork; daughter, Angela Lovorn Odom and husband Michael of Memphis; granddaughters, Leslie Dees and husband Paul, of Kosciusko, Lisa Holland of Madison and Christine Odom of Memphis; and great-granddaughters, Landry Holland and Lorelei Dees.

Special thanks to her caregivers, Cynthia Words, Pearl Kelly and Tequila Harris, as well as her doctors, Lee Stein M.D., Lynn Ebaugh M.D. and Anita Arnold M.D.

Pallbearers will be Jim Bryant, Paul Dees, Jimmy C. Newman, Don Windham, Grey Windham and Waye Windham. Honorary pallbearers are Laurence Carter and Frank Corban.
