Funeral services for Jessie M. Burks will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Mount Olive M. B. Church in Lorman with the Rev. Elijah Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Ms. Burks died Dec. 29,2015 at her daughter’s home. She was 73.
She was retired from the Claiborne County School System, as a school teacher at A. W. Watson Elementary School. She was a member of Mount Olive M. B. Church, and a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Order of the Eastern Star St Mary Chapter No. 1.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Mildred Brown; brothers Roosevelt Brown, Susan Pendleton; and a grandson Gary S. Walker,
Survivors include two daughters, Linda F. Penfleton of Brandon and Betty Walker of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Dion Pendleton of Milwaukee and Alonzo Pendleton of Port Gibson; five sisters, Julia Jackson and Elizabeth Davis, both of Baton Rouge, La., Della Wilson of Fresno, Calif., Annette Washington of Compton, Calif., Lovie S. Jackson of Sparks, Nev; brothers, Alonzo Brown and Ed Brown, both of Fresno, Calif.; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
