The Louisiana National Guard has mobilized more than 70 personnel to help local, parish and state emergency officials in advance of expected river flooding.
Guardsmen will begin 24-hour levee inspection operations Friday in Concordia, East Carroll, Madison and Tensas parishes to inspect for seepage. Two sand-bagging chutes have been provided to officials in Tensas Parish and the military agency has issued 13,000 sandbags to both West Feliciana and Avoyelles parishes.
The agency says guardsmen will also conduct aerial surveys in the Red River Atchafalaya Levee District, including the Red River, Old River control structure and Morganza control structure.
