Sarah Janie Curtis, 83, of Vicksburg, passed away at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson.
Janie’s joy was her husband of 64 years, her children and her family, showing her devotion by cooking and caring for them.
She enjoyed her church activities and she was also an avid and skilled bridge player. She was a sweet soul. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in those of us who she left behind; may her sweet soul rest in peace.
She worked at Bellsouth Telephone Co. She was a member of the Crawford Street Methodist Church and also a member in the Joy Group Sunday School Class. She belonged to the Green Hills Garden Club, P.A.K. Sorority and to the ladies engineers auxiliary.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas B. O’Bannon and Sarah (Mann) O’Bannon; siblings, Thomas O’ Bannon, Robert O’ Bannon and Patsy Landes; and grandchildren, Lindsey Brook Maggio and William Michael Curtis Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William W. Curtis; daughters, Sharon K. (Charles) Winfield of Franklin, Tenn., Beth (David) Maggio of Vicksburg and Leigh Cook of Vicksburg; son, William Michael (Denesha) Curtis of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Justin (Amanda) Maggio, Ryan Winfield, Blair Cook, Lauren Winfield and Cory (Teva) Winfield, and Cameron Curtis; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Anna and Elijah Winfield and Roman Maggio; brother, John (Ruth) O’Bannon; sister, Constance (Charles) Anderson; and nieces and nephews.
Service will be Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at noon at Crawford Street United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens.
Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Monday. The Rev. Cary Stockett will conduct the service under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mike Allred, Justin Maggio, Ryan Winfield, Benjamin Brooks, Pete O’ Bannon, David O’Bannon, Jimmy Turner and Beau Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Murray Whitaker, Dr. Russell Barnes, Dr. Sam Pierce, Dr. Bobby Tullos, and the Joy Group Sunday school class of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
Memorials can be made to the Joy Group at CSUMC and to the Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
