LAWTON, Okla. — Funeral service for Gloria Helen Smith will be 9:30 AM Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dan Palesano officiating.
Burial will follow in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Okla.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith, 76, of Lawton, went home to meet her heavenly father Wedenesday, Jan. 27, 2016, in Lawton. She was born on June 30, 1939 in Vicksburg
After high school, she became a practical nurse. She helped many sick people in the community where she lived including her grandmother and mother. She traveled to many places with her husband, the Rev. Melvin Smith, who was in the military at the time.
After her husband retired from the military, Gloria assisted him in prison ministries for more than 25 years where they were known as Mama & Papa Smith. She was a shining light for Christ where ever she went.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Melvin Smith; four sons, Fred M. Smith and wife Dr. Jonnie Smith of Tennessee, Melvin T. Smith and wife Robin Smith, Patrick E. Smith and wife LaQuita Smith and Daniel E. Smith of Oklahoma, nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are 15 brothers and sisters, Susie B. Williams of California, Ruby Graves, Lucille Bailey, Dorothy Graves, Louise Berry, Mary Jo Williams, Diane King, Lela A. Shelby, Henry Graves, Issac Graves, Shurn Graves, Michael Graves of Mississippi, and Lela M. Graves, May Graves and Amos Graves of Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rappon and Josephine Peterson; mother, Ruby Fisher; and two brothers, James and Claude Graves.
