Allen’s late layup lifts WC over Clinton

Jalen Allen hit the game-winning layup with six seconds remaining, and Warren Central’s boys basketball team beat Clinton 54-53 on Wednesday night.

Allen led the Vikings (11-12, 2-2 Division 4-6A) with 14 points, while Chavis Smith scored 12 and Shaun Walton had 11. The Vikings are 9-3 at home this season and won for the third time in four games.

Galin Smith led Clinton (16-9, 2-3) with 21 points.

In the girls’ game, Khyla Crosby, Mychala Linzy and Vivan Tripp each scored 13 points to lead Clinton to a 41-35 win over WC (16-8, 1-3).

T.T. Sims led the Lady Vikes with 16 points, and Cocoa Fultz scored seven. No one else had more than four.

Gators beat Lanier, 54-49

Raheam Moore and K.J. Murphy scored 15 points apiece and Kirk Parker had a double-double as Vicksburg High’s boys basketball team beat Lanier 54-49 on Wednesday to snap a three-game losing streak.

Parker had 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Gators (9-13, 3-3 Division 4-5A). They led by 14 at halftime and allowed Lanier to get within two with just over a minute to play before hanging on for the win.

In the girls’ game, Brittany Rose scored 22 points to lead Lanier to a 66-43 rout of Vicksburg.

Karry Callahan led Vicksburg (10-13, 1-5) with 16 points and 17 rebounds, Pleasure King scored scored 12.
