Christopher “Chris” Wayne Whittington

Christopher “Chris” Wayne Whittington of Vicksburg died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, at his residence. He was 43.

Chris was a Vicksburg radio and television personality who will be remembered for his talent and passion for visual arts and his love for this community. He worked for local radio stations and produced Paul Ott’s “Listen to the Eagle” radio and television programs. He also was involved with the Miss Mississippi Pageant. Chris was the editor and founder of “Vicksburg Daily News,” which he recently closed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles (CW) Whittington of St. Francisville, La.; maternal grandfather, Oscar (Red) Hart of Mize; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Iris Whittington of Woodville; and daughter, Callie McCraw of Vicksburg.

Survivors include his wife, Cristy Whittington of Vicksburg; one daughter, Stefani Whittington and one son, Timothy Whittington, both of Owasso, Kan.; mother, Linda Whittington of Lawton, Okla.; three brothers, John Whittington and Timothy Whittington, both of Lawton, Okla., and Billy Whittington of Highland Village; one sister, Clarissa Swaggart of Natchez; grandmother, Doris Lucille Hart of Mize; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1318 First East Street, Vicksburg. Donations may be made to any Trustmark Bank, in care of Chris Whittington Fund or Concrete Fund.
