RAYMOND — Tanner Leggett scored three goals, including two in the first eight minutes of the game, to lead Central Hinds to a 4-0 win over Heritage Academy in the MAIS Division III boys soccer championship game on Saturday.
Central Hinds (17-0) won its third state title in a row and completed its third straight undefeated season. The Cougars have won 49 consecutive games.
Leggett scored his first goal 30 seconds into the game and added another in the eighth minute to put Central Hinds ahead 2-0 before the crowd had settled into its seats. He completed his hat trick with an exclamation point goal in the 78th minute.
Gunar Robinson had Central Hinds’ other goal, on a penalty kick late in the first half.
Heritage Academy (9-6-1) was making its first-ever appearance in the state championship game. The Patriots entered the playoffs as a No. 2 seed and then won two road games in three days — including one against top-seeded St. Aloysius — to reach the final.
