Ole Miss finishes sweep

Ole Miss started the 2016 college baseball season with a lot of fans, a lot of runs, and a lot of wins.

The Rebels scored nine runs in the first inning Sunday, and they went on to complete a three-game sweep of Florida International with a 16-5 win at Swayze Field.

Every Ole Miss starter recorded a hit. J.B. Woodman belted a three-run home run during the big first inning. Ryan Olenek had a two-run double in the second inning and Tate Blackman had a two-run double in the fourth.

Woodman finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, Olenek drove in four runs, and Blackman was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Nick Day hit a two-run home run for FIU.

As a team, Ole Miss was 11-for-21 with runners on base, and in the last two games it was 4-for-5 with nine RBIs with the bases loaded.

Sean Johnson started and pitched five innings for the Rebels. He allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits. He walked two and struck out five.

Ole Miss got off to a 3-0 start for the fourth time in the past six seasons, and ninth overall under head coach Mike Bianco.

Sunday’s attendance was 6,754, bringing the weekend total to 26,910. The weekend attendance was the sixth-highest in Ole Miss history for a three-game series.
