Two really bad innings canceled out five really good ones for the Vicksburg Missy Gators on Monday night.

Brookhaven took advantage of seven errors by the Missy Gators to score nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings, and rolled to a 10-0 win at the Softball Swamp.

“The first five innings, we played very well. It was a very good ballgame,” Vicksburg coach Brian Ellis said. “We just let it get away late. We had some plays we should have made.”

The Missy Gators were overmatched against Brookhaven pitcher Katherine Shell. The East Mississippi Community College signee had 18 strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter.

Olivia Oakes had Vicksburg’s only two hits of the game. She also pitched a complete game and didn’t walk a batter while striking out two. Only four of Brookhaven’s 10 runs were earned.

Macy Brabham reached on an error and scored on a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning to snap a scoreless tie. She hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning as Brookhaven stretched its lead to 4-0, and had an RBI single during the six-run seventh.

Brabham finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Tia Bussey tripled, drove in a run and scored two, and Kat Wallace was 1-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.

“That last inning they started getting on her. But if we don’t make mistakes, maybe she doesn’t have to throw so many pitches,” Ellis said of Oakes.

Brandon 11, WC 2

Brandon strung together five hits and scored seven runs in the third inning Monday and went on to easily beat Warren Central (0-3).

Ann Elyse Nichols drove in two runs for Brandon, and Abbey Salvo scored three times. Madison Holton pitched a complete game and had 11 strikeouts.

Brooke Patterson was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Warren Central
