William James “Bill” Slayton Sr.

William James “Bill” Slayton Sr., died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Claiborne County Medical center.
He was 91.
Born July 16, 1924, Mr. Slayton was the only son of William Daniel and Emily Slayton.
After serving in the U.S. Army from May 7, 1943, to Jan. 22, 1946, he lived in Jackson.
He worked at numerous places including the Jackson Police Department, Vickers and the U.S. Postal Service. He was in the Air National Guard, retiring after 26 years.
After moving back to Port Gibson, he worked for the Port Gibson Police Department and retired from the Claiborne County Road Department. He was also a member of the Washington Lodge #3 Order of The Masons and Shiloh Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Ottilie Cain, Claudia Cunningham, and Lucille Trim.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Jordan Slayton of Port Gibson; two sons, William James Slayton Jr. of Acworth, Ga., and Daniel Jordan Slayton of Tallulah, La.; a daughter, Mable Slayton Britt of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relitives, and friends.
Funeral services for will 2 Friday March 11, 2016, at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson. The Rev. Burt Bryant will officiate
Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time. Burial will be in Wintergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Edgar Cain Jr., Byran Cunningham, Tony Bufkin, Richard Bufkin, Mickey Bufkin, and Jamie Cain.
