Vicksburg tops Terry, snaps skid

The Vicksburg Missy Gators took out a couple of weeks of frustration on Terry Monday night.
Olivia Oakes drove in four runs, Hannah Emerson knocked in three, and the Missy Gators hit five doubles as they beat Terry 17-7.
Vicksburg (4-6) snapped a three-game losing streak in which it had given up at least 12 runs and not scored more than three in every game.
Oakes pitched a five-inning complete game — it ended after the fifth via the mercy rule — but gave up seven runs on seven hits. She struck out two and walked one. Her mediocre pitching performance, however, was made up for with a solid night at the plate.
Oakes hit a bases-clearing double during a 10-run rally in the fourth inning. Her hit gave the Missy Gators a 7-3 lead. She also reached on an error that brought in a run.
Kelcey Lockridge followed Oakes’ double with one of her own, while Emerson had an RBI groundout in the fourth inning and a two-run single in the fifth.
Myah’ Wright went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and four runs scored for Vicksburg, while Jazmin Green went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Bethany Martin also had a double and an RBI, and scored twice. McKenzie Thomason, Kayla Foster, and Sara Daniels also scored two runs apiece.
The Missy Gators are scheduled to play three more home games this week — Wednesday against Warren Central, Thursday against Germantown and Saturday against Riverside. The games with Warren Central and Germantown are makeups of ones rained out last week, but heavy rain is again in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.
