Virginia Ruth Frasier Choat

ST. JOSEPH La. — Funeral services for Virginia Ruth Frasier Choat, 89, of Saint Joseph will be 10 a.m.

Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at St. Joseph Baptist Church, St. Joseph with Bro. Harry Boyd officiating. Interment will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Virginia Choat was a longtime resident of St. Joseph. She passed from this life on April 2, 2016, at her residence.

On Wednesday, May 12, 1926, Mrs. Choat was the last of eight children born to the late Zachariah and Artie Frasier and on Oct. 10, 1944, she married her husband of 62 years, Robert Louis Choat.

She spent most of her life as a homemaker, but preferred the outdoors, and while she was able, took pleasure in tending her flower garden and feeding the humming birds. Mrs. Choat was also a great asset to her husband on the farm. She was a member of St. Joseph Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers, Hill Frasier, Aster Frasier, Bill Frasier and A.Z Frasier; two sisters, Ethel Cail and Bertha Anderson; one grandson, Kevin Wayne Lefteroff; one great-grandson, Andrew Moon; and two sons-in-law, Sidney Lee and Larry Lefteroff.

Survivors include a son, Carlton Choat of St. Joseph; four daughters, Sandra Lee of St. Joseph, Gala Walters and husband Lamar of Tallulah, La., Marcia Lefteroff of Clinton and Angie Barfield and husband Bob of Dry Prong, La.; one sister, Katherine Thompson of Huntsville, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Lee, David Lee, Morgan Lee, Josh Lee, Nate Moon and Carlton Choat.

In Lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Tensas Academy or St. Joseph Baptist Church, St. Joseph, La.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday from 6 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday, at the church from 9 a.m. until the service time.
