James B. Steven

WINNSBORO, La. — Funeral service for James B. Steven, 69 of Vicksburg, formerly of Winnsboro, La., is 11 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2016, at Gill First National Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Donnie Jo Blackmon, the Rev. Mitch Cochran and the Rev. Frances Guy officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Winnsboro.

He was born to James Newton and Sam Ogelsby Ferrand Steven on Feb. 10, 1947, in Baton Rouge and passed from this life Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Merit Health River Region Hospital in Vicksburg.

Mr. Steven was a member of Gibson Memorial Methodist Church. He retired from Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative in Winnsboro as purchasing agent.

He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Winnsboro Lions Club and VFW.

His hobbies included hunting, reading war related material, watching cooking shows, telling stories and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his precious grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Brooks Steven; daughter and son-in-law, Samantha and Dustin Blount, and two grandchildren, Keegan Samuel Blount and Allison Belle Blount all of Vicksburg.

He is also survived by three siblings, Susan Steven McWilliams of Baton Rouge, Harry B. Steven of Nashville, Tenn., Sam F. Steven of Crowville; “sister” Francine N. Pfaff of Vicksburg; goddaughter Donya B. Bradley of Vicksburg; “granddaughter” Remington Bass of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Mason Blount, Mike Blount, Michael Griffith, Eric Huff, John O’Bannon, John Pfaff and Johnny Williams, honorary pallbearers will are Jerry Martin, Brandon Sims and Lester Thomas, Sr.
