OXFORD — Sophomore right-hander Alex Lange fired his second straight complete game Friday night to lead LSU to a 6-3 win over Ole Miss in the middle game of a three-game baseball series at Swazye Field.
Lange (5-3) limited Ole Miss (32-12, 11-9 Southeastern Conference to three runs, two earned, on seven hits in nine innings. He walked one and struck out seven.
Lange, who also turned in a complete game last week against Mississippi State, became the first LSU pitcher to record back-to-back complete games since Aaron Nola posted four in a row in 2013.
“Alex Lange would not be denied tonight,” LSU coach Paul Mainieri said. “He upped it another notch and showed what he is capable of being. We needed him desperately because of how we went into our bullpen yesterday. I’ve never seen a more determined athlete in my life. He put his team on his back.”
Catcher Jordan Romero led LSU’s 11-hit attack by going 2-for-2 with a two-run homer and three RBIs.
LSU and Ole Miss will finish their three-game series Saturday at 11 a.m. in Oxford.
