OXFORD — J.B. Woodman helped Ole Miss take LSU to the woodshed.
The junior center fielder hit two home runs, drove in four runs and scored three more, to lead Ole Miss to an 8-2 win over the Tigers in Saturday’s series finale in Oxford.
Woodman’s big game Saturday capped a weekend in which he hit three home runs, drove in eight runs and threw out three runners out at the plate. His efforts helped Ole Miss (33-12, 12-9 SEC) take two out of three in the series with LSU (28-16, 11-10).
Woodman hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Colby Bortles followed with a solo shot to give the Rebels a 3-0 lead.
Cameron Dishon and Bortles had RBI doubles in the second and third innings, respectively, and Woodman hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to make it 7-0.
Bortles finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Tate Blackman had three hits.
Blackman, Woodman and Bortles, the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 hitters in Ole Miss’ lineup, went a combined 8-for-12 in Saturday’s game, with six RBIs and seven runs scored.
“We swung it well all weekend from top to bottom,” Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said. “We were able to get guys on, move them around and score some runs which is all we hoped for against a team like LSU.”
Chris Reid went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored for LSU. The Tigers had 11 hits, but left 14 runners on base and didn’t scored until the eighth inning.
