Funeral services for Monroe Parson will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016, at Cedar Grove M.B. Church, with the Rev. Antione K. Eakins officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 2 to 7 p.m., and Friday at the church from noon until the service.

Mr. Parson died May 4, 2016 at Promise Specialty Hospital. He was 81.

He was a member of Cedar Grove M.B. Church and was retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District.

He was preceded in death by his parents Isaac Parson Sr. and Doretha Smith Parson ; one brother, Theodore Parson; and a stepson, George Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Parson; one daughter, Lisa Parson Thomas; stepchildren, Janice Ruffin, Edward Ruffin and Michael Ruffin, all of Vicksburg; three sisters, Jerlean McGee, Ernestine Parson and Josephine Parker, all of Vicksburg; six brothers, George Parson, Raymond Parson, Fred Parson and Isaac Parson Jr., all of Vicksburg, Robert Parson of St. Louis and Johnny Parson of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
