Want some coverage? The Post is listening

Do you have a youth lacrosse team that you’re dying to get media coverage for? Did you once stand behind Eli Manning in a Kangaroo and watch him pay for gas in pennies? Do you have any good sports-related stories you’d like to see written about in The Vicksburg Post?
Now is the time.
We’re heading into a dead zone on the Warren County sports calendar. For the next two or three weeks, there is almost nothing of consequence going on. The high school seasons are all over, but the summer workouts have yet to begin. The recreational youth sports like baseball and softball have wrapped up, and the more serious travel ball teams have yet to take center stage.
Everything that carries our section for roughly 48 weeks out of the year, it seems, shuts down while everyone deals with the end of the school year, summer vacations and the need for a quick mental cleanse before it all ramps up again.
On the one hand, it’s the perfect time for us in the Vicksburg Post sports department to take our own vacations. I’ve got a couple of weeks to burn before football begins in August.
On the other hand, it’s a brutal, difficult time to have to produce a top-notch local sports section on a daily basis. I enjoy baseball, but not sitting at Halls Ferry Park on a windless 97-degree day watching a couple of random teams slug it out in the pool play round of a tournament no one will remember two weeks from now. That’s the kind of thing that makes you question your life choices. There’s not an option, however. We cover local sports, and that’s local sports in the summer. It’s the job. It’s what we do, and I generally enjoy what I do.
The other option is to turn over rocks looking for stories to tell. That’s where you, dear reader, come in.
If you have something that seems interesting, send us an email at sports@vicksburgpost.com or call us at 601-619-7120 and we’ll try to write about it. There are no bad story ideas, only bad story execution.
So if you’re trying to form a cricket team, or putting on a cricket jumping contest, or just like to eat crickets, drop us a line. Trying to become a professional wrestler? Entering a bull riding competition? Barrel racing?
Let us know! Please?
