COLLEGE STATION, Texas — There were a lot of scenarios in play when Ole Miss went down to College Station this weekend to play a series with Texas A&M.
With one game left, there’s only one — the Rebels will be playing on the first day of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
Boomer White’s three-run home run over the left field wall keyed a six-run outburst in the third inning that propelled Texas A&M to an 11-5 win over Ole Miss on Friday night.
White went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored, J.B. Moss drove in three more runs for the Aggies, and Jonathan Moroney was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Andrew Vinson pitched five innings of scoreless relief out of the bullpen. He allowed one hit, walked none and struck out eight, and was credited with his second save of the season. Stephen Kolek (3-0) pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief and got the win.
Ole Miss starter David Parkinson (4-3) took the loss. He allowed eight runs — only two of them earned — on 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings. The Rebels committed two errors. Parkinson walked none and struck out two.
Henri Lartigue had two RBIs for Ole Miss. The Rebels only had six hits in the game, and wasted a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Texas A&M (41-12, 20-9 SEC) clinched a first-round bye in next week’s SEC Tournament with a win, and ensured that Ole Miss (39-16, 17-12) will play in the single-elimination round on Tuesday.
Ole Miss will be either the No. 5, 6 or 7 seed depending on how everything shakes out on the final day of the regular season.
