A Vicksburg man accused of breaking into 12 storage units and a passenger in his vehicle were held without bail Friday.
Derek DeAnthony Bowman, 31, 128 Williams Road, was arrested Thursday and charged with 12 counts of burglary, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
At 8 a.m. Thursday, multiple storage units at 61 North Mini-Storage were reported burglarized, Pace said. Evidence gathered on scene and surveillance video footage led investigators to suspect Bowman, Pace said.
At 3:30 p.m. Thursday, he was spotted traveling in a black Mitsubishi Montero Sport with a switched license plate and pulled over by Lt. Randy Lewis with help of the Vicksburg Police Department, Pace said. Some of the stolen property was in plain sight in the vehicle, Pace said.
It was discovered that Bowman had a warrant for his arrest for probation violation from the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Pace said.
Cirrus Denzell Taylor, 20, 3135 Washington St., was a passenger in the vehicle and was charged with receiving and possession of stolen property, Pace said. He is on probation with MDOC.
Some of the stolen property has been recovered, Pace said. The investigation continues, and more charges could come, Pace said.
