Elidia ‘Lydia’ Garcia Llanes

Elidia “Lydia” Garcia Llanes was born Sept. 27, 1923, to Josefina and Ricardo Garcia in Marfa, Texas.

She passed away peacefully on June 4, 2016, at her home in Vicksburg.

She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Lorinc of Vicksburg; daughter-in-law, Barbara Llanes of Brea, Calif.; four granddaughters; great-grandchildren; and cousins, nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tobias Z. Llanes; son, Eugene T. Llanes; and daughter Delma B. Mosse’.

After graduating Marfa High School, Lydia moved to Los Angeles in 1946, where she met and married Tobias, an operating engineer, in January, 1947. Settling in La Puente, Calif., their union prospered until Toby’s death 1993.

A devout Roman Catholic, Lydia attended daily Mass at St. Louis of France in La Puente until failing health required her move to Vicksburg in 2015, where she remained under the loving care of Pastor Tom Lalor, St. Joseph’s Hospice, and her daughter Darlene and son-in-law Joe until her passing.

A memorial service will be conducted at St. Paul’s Catholic Church Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at 5 p.m. Lydia will be interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Covina Hills, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorials be made to St. Louis of France Catholic Church, 13935 E. Temple Street, La Puente, CA  91746.
