One person was killed and three others severely injured after a Chevrolet Suburban collided with an 18-wheeler on Mississippi 27 north of the Natchez Trace in Hinds County Saturday evening, Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Henry said.

The accident occurred about 4 to 5 miles south of the Warren County line.

Warren County authorities and Vicksburg firefighters were called to assist with removing one of the victims from the SUV, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

The names of the victims were not released pending notification of families, Henry said.

The two passengers in the Suburban and the driver of the 18-wheeler were taken to University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

According to MHP reports, the 18-wheeler was southbound on Mississippi 27 when a vehicle turned out in front of the truck’s lane.

The driver of the truck swerved to avoid hitting the car and entered the northbound lane, colliding head-on with the Suburban.
