Victim identified in deadly crash

The driver of an SUV who was killed when his car collided with an 18-wheeler Saturday on Mississippi 27 has been identified by the Mississippi Highway patrol as William Alexander, 68, of Sheridan, Ark., MHP Trooper Eric Henry said.

He said Alexander’s wife was in critical but stable condition and his daughter was in stable condition at University of Mississippi Medical Center.

The accident occurred Saturday evening about 4 to 5 miles south of the Warren County line on Mississippi 27 north of the Natchez Trace in Hinds County. Warren County authorities and Vicksburg firefighters were called to assist with removing one of the victims from the SUV, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

According to MHP reports, the 18-wheeler was southbound on Mississippi 27 when a vehicle turned out in front of the truck’s lane.

The driver of the truck swerved to avoid hitting the car and entered the northbound lane, colliding head-on with the Suburban.
