Clear Creek Ladies report

Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association members met on Wednesday for individual play. The Flight A winner was Carol Roberson, with Martha Masterson winning Flight B and Mary May winning Flight C. Roberson also logged the lowest number of putts.

VHS softball alumni game

Vicksburg High School’s softball team will host an alumni game on Saturday, July 16 at the Softball Swamp field on Army Navy Drive. The alumni game will begin at 7 p.m., and will be preceded by a home run derby at 6 p.m.

The game is open to all former VHS slow- and fast-pitch softball players. The registration fee to play is $20, and registration will begin at 5 p.m. There is a $2 admission charge for fans.

Gator Golf Classic

The inaugural Gator Golf Classic, a tournament to benefit the Vicksburg High baseball program, is scheduled for Aug. 5 at Clear Creek Golf Course. Registration for the two-person scramble is $150 per team, or $90 for an individual. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100, $225 and $500.

Sign-in for the tournament will begin at 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 5, and golfing starts at 1. An awards ceremony and dinner will follow at the Clear Creek clubhouse. A grand prize of two YETI coolers will be awarded, and there are also prizes for the top three finishers in each flight, for the longest drive and closest to the pin.

Summer tennis lessons

The City of Vicksburg is offering free tennis lessons for children ages 5-18, each weekday this summer at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The lessons will go from 8 to 10 a.m. each day, and 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays. There will also be a junior team tennis session from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Powell Soccer Camp

St. Aloysius will host the Leon Powell High School Soccer Technical Camp July 11-14 at Strickland Field in Bovina. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day, and the registration fee is $180 per person, and $150 for additional siblings.

The co-ed camp will feature instruction from Bradley Stewart, the former senior technical director for the Jamaican national team, as well as Lamar High School coach Leon Powell, former University of Cincinnati player Andre Sharpe and Jamaican nation U15 women’s coach Xavier Gilbert.
