Robert Percy Dowe Sr.

Our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and cousin, Robert Percy Dowe Sr. departed his earthly home on Tuesday, July, 5, 2016. He was 85 years old.

Born in Hinds County to Oscar Oliver and Crystelle Cook Dowe on August 26, 1930, he was the third of five children.

He attended Utica High School and then joined the United States Army. Upon his return to Vicksburg, he met and married Clover Marie Miller in 1951. They would have been married 65 years on July 21. The couple made their home in Vicksburg for twenty years where they raised their family of three children

Mr. Dowe was a police officer for the City of Vicksburg in the 1950s before being elected to the Warren County Board of Supervisors. Mr. and Mrs. Dowe moved to their beloved home in the country located in Utica where they have lived for the past 43 years. Mr. Dowe was a Christian man of the Methodist Protestant faith who deeply loved the Lord. Many times he would remark how blessed by God his family has been. He was a member of Hyland-Jarmon Lodge #113 and had been a Mason for 60 years. Mr. Dowe was also a member of the BPOE Elk’s Lodge #95 and the Moose Lodge of Vicksburg.

Mr. Dowe was a keen outdoorsman who loved spending time with family and friends, enjoying hunting, fishing, trapping, playing cards and challenging conversations. By far, his family brought him the most joy in his life. His presence, wit, wisdom, encouragement and love can never be replaced. He will be greatly missed.

Mr. Dowe is survived by his wife, Clover M. Dowe of Utica; three children, Linda McGowan (Ronnie), Robert P. Dowe Jr. (Shelia Fowler) and Rachael Cook (David); brother, Ralph Dowe (Ethel), all of Vicksburg; six adored grandchildren, Mark McGowan (Callie), Lauren Powers (Paul), Robyn Wells (Cameron), Kimberly McLaughlin (Kenny), Kiel May and Scott May; eight cherished great-grandchildren, Clover McGowan, Dowe McGowan, Lona Kate McGowan, Alexandria Layne Powers, Jonathan Wells, Breanna Wells, Avery McLaughlin and Michael McLaughlin and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, W.T. “Bill” Dowe and Jack Ellis Dowe Sr. and his sister, Emma Jean Smith.

Funeral services will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home chapel in Vicksburg on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Marvin Curtis officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will follow in the Cayuga Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kiel May, Scott May, Paul Powers, Cameron Wells, Kenny McLaughlin and Jack Ellis Dowe Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Vaughn, Wallace Goza, Ken Dowe, Marty Crevitt and Jeff Crevitt.
