VSO registration open
Registration for the Vicksburg Soccer Organization’s fall season is now available online at vsosoccer.org. There are leagues for children ages 4-14, and the registration fee ranges from $60 to $90 depending on age. Early bird registration is available until July 31 and comes with a $5 discount. Open registration will continue until Aug. 21, and the season starts Sept. 5. For more information, visit vsosoccer.org, or email info@vsosoccer.org.
Clear Creek Ladies report
On Wednesday, the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association hosted its July retirees scramble. The team of Cheri Williams, Donnie Frith, Jerry Harmon, Mark Posey and Richard Taylor took first place. Second place went to the team of Judy McKnight, Larry Cook, Maxim Dornbusch and Frank McGowan. Emily Bonelli, Del Cox, Bob Walters and Jimmy Stabler placed third.
Dinah Lazor and Frank McGowan hit the longest drives. Closest-to-Pin awards went to Joyce Johnson, Judy McKnight, Maxim Dornbusch and Davey Simmons. Chip-ins were made by Cheri Williams, Rich Cooper, Tom Rosser, Joe Tom and Bob Walters.
VCC Junior Golf Camp
The Vicksburg Country Club will host its junior golf, tennis and swim camp throughout the summer. Camps for children ages 9 and older will be held July 12-15 and July 26-29, and camps for children ages 8 and under will be July 19-22 and Aug. 2-5. The camps will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, and will include golf and tennis activities followed by swimming in the VCC pool. The cost of the camp is $150 for the week for non-VCC members.

VHS softball alumni game
Vicksburg High School’s softball team will host an alumni game on Saturday, July 16 at the Softball Swamp field on Army Navy Drive. The alumni game will begin at 7 p.m., and will be preceded by a home run derby at 6 p.m.
The game is open to all former VHS slow- and fast-pitch softball players. The registration fee to play is $20, and registration will begin at 5 p.m. There is a $2 admission charge for fans. All players wishing to participate are asked to RSVP as soon as possible.

Gator Golf Classic
The inaugural Gator Golf Classic, a tournament to benefit the Vicksburg High School baseball program, is scheduled for Aug. 5 at Clear Creek Golf Course. Registration for the two-person scramble is $150 per team, or $90 for an individual. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100, $225 and $500.
Sign-in for the tournament will begin at 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 5, and golfing at 1.

Summer tennis lessons
The City of Vicksburg is offering free tennis lessons for children ages 5-18, each weekday this summer at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The lessons will go from 8 to 10 a.m. each day, and 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays. There will also be a junior team tennis session from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The lessons will be taught by head pro LeRoy Johnson, and assistants Matthew Register and Joseph Michael Jabour. For more information, call the City of Vicksburg’s tennis director Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.
Packers registration
The Vicksburg Packers youth football and cheer training camp and registration will be held each Monday and Wednesday, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Vicksburg Junior High football stadium on Baldwin Ferry Road. Registration is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 12. Players and cheerleaders must not turn 13 before Aug. 1. There will be teams for players 8-, 10- and 12-and-under.

Hinds soccer ID camp
Hinds Community College’s women’s soccer program will host an ID camp July 15 at Tom Shepherd Field on its Raymond campus. The camp is open to all high school players, and will include a tour of the campus, a training session and scrimmage. The camp will run from 4 to 7 p.m., and the cost is $30.
