Shirley Summers

Shirley Summers died July 9, 2016, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 79.

Born in Columbus, she had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1965.

Shirley was the daughter of the late Julius B. Wilson and Lecie Robertson Wilson. She retired from Cappaert Enterprises.  She was active in her community, having served for many years as a hostess for the Miss Mississippi Pageant, an active member of the Vicksburg Lions Club, and a former board member of Midd-West.

Shirley was an avid bridge enthusiast, and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Terisa Cochran (David) of Vicksburg; two sons, Tim Summers of Jackson and Ken Summers (Judi) of Martinez, Ga.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nieces, Billie Sue Trammel and Jennifer Murphy; special friends, Melisa Wooten and family, and Wendy Summers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Michael Summers, who at the time of his death had been married to Shirley for 52 years. She was also predeceased by two brothers.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Reiber, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service. Memorials may be made to PAWS Rescue, Post Office Box 13, Redwood, MS 39156.

Pallbearers will be Jay McKenzie, Kearney Waites, Mark Doiron, Timothy Summers Jr., John Ryan Lee and Barry Wooten Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Walter Johnston, staff of Compassus Hospice and staff of Vicksburg Convalescent Home.
